If becoming a parent is one of your future goals, there is no better time to become aware of your reproductive health than right now. The earlier you determine your fertility, the more options you have when you eventually decide to pursue parenthood.
Why get a Fertility Awareness Checkup?
A Fertility Awareness Checkup will help you in your quest to plan a family by providing an initial overview of your reproductive potential. This will help alleviate stress, as well as save valuable time and financial resources in your journey to become a parent.
What is a Fertility Awareness Checkup?
This checkup includes the most predictive fertility testing to date to determine your potential for getting pregnant. For women the checkup includes two blood tests and an ultrasound (called an Antral Follicle Count). For men it includes a Semen Analysis.
Who should get tested?
Approximately one-third of infertility is attributed to the female partner, one-third attributed to the male partner and one-third is caused by a combination of problems in both partners or, is unexplained. (www.asrm.org) Anyone who plans to be a parent — male or female, individuals or couples — should be tested.
We will perform two blood tests — Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Estradiol tests — which will provide us with information about your basic fertility status. The FSH test measures the function of your ovaries and tells us about your fertility potential. The best time to have these tests performed is between Days 2 and 4 of your menstrual cycle. A transvaginal ultrasound will be performed on the same day of your Estradiol and FSH tests. Once you schedule a checkup, we ask that you call on Day 1 of your cycle. If Day 1 falls on a weekend please call us on Monday to determine which day is best for you to come in for testing.
Your Semen Analysis can be done in any of our 10 office locations. In order to get the most accurate results, you must abstain from sexual activity for no less than two and no more than five days before producing the specimen. We are happy to answer any of your questions by phone or in person.
What do these results mean?
Our fertility specialists will read and interpret the test results and thoroughly explain them to you. While these results do not give a definitive answer, they offer an estimate of your fertility potential. You should also be aware that these tests do not guarantee future fertility, but the results will help answer questions about when and how to start planning your family.
