The 2018 theme of National Infertility Awareness Week is #FliptheScript, a message that aims to change the conversation about infertility.
To #FliptheScript, we are urging others to understand:
Infertility is a disease that affects one in eight couples. It is likely that you know several people who have experienced challenges in growing their family.
Millions of people regardless of race, gender, religion, sexuality or economic status are affected by infertility. Everyone can experience barriers to building a family.
Infertility barriers can include a lack of insurance coverage, out-of-pocket costs, faith and religion, sexual orientation, and state and federal laws.
Let’s #FliptheScript and ask our lawmakers to require that insurance companies provide the necessary medical coverage to allow everyone to have a family. Let’s ask our employers to provide comprehensive coverage for the testing and treatment to find a medical solution. You can make a difference NOW by helping legislators pass House Bill 2617.
We also want to #FliptheScript around infertility to a message of hope:
More and more people are sharing their experiences of infertility and their success in having a child and overcoming infertility.
The stigma of infertility continues to decrease as public awareness increases across the globe.
Treatment technologies continue to advance and innovate, providing more options and greater chances of success for couples and individuals.
There has never been more community support rallying around fertility than there is today. Have hope that your dream will come true and know there are many people behind you to support this goal!
