Psychologist Corner

The diagnosis of Infertility and its subsequent treatment always raise stress levels and challenge our ability to manage uncertainty and disappointment. The experience seems to affect all aspects of a person's life and to stir up powerful and sometimes disturbing feelings. Many patients wonder if what they are going through is normal and are looking for advice on how to cope more effectively.

At Fertility Centers of Illinois, patients can consult in person with our staff psychologist, Marie Davidson, PhD., for guidance and support. Dr. Davidson also welcomes your e-mail questions about the "emotional side" of infertility and will respond to all questions to your email address. I can also recommend some books that may be helpful:

• Resolving Infertility (written by the staff of Resolve), Harper Collins,1999.

• Choosing Assisted Reproduction, by Susan Cooper and Ellen Glazer, Perspectives Press, 1998.

The first book has a very good list of organizations, including adoption groups.
